I believe that a doula supports the laboring woman and her loved ones through the process of birth.  She comforts the woman and normalizes the journey for all involved.  She listens and gives calm to what can be a fearful time and environment.  A doula is there to mirror the beauty of the woman and remind her of her power, energy and spirit. 

In July of 2005, I gave birth to my son with the support of a very experienced and wonderful doula. My husband and I didn’t plan on having any friends or family present because we were living on the East Coast very far from relatives. Our doula not only helped my husband, but also provided me with terrific support and guidance.
